INSTRUCTIONS

Visual Design Publication Final Dissertation

A dissertation is the final outcome in this module that reflects the students' theoretical and practical knowledge of design. Students are to design the publication of the dissertation. The concept of the publication must be relevant to the research topic. Since the e-publication format is expected, page layout, publication size, font, and font size, are predetermined by the lecturer. Best to keep it at A5 size in case the programme requires printing them in hardcopy format for any future audit or MQA accreditation process purpose. Other design considerations are to be made by the student, guided by the lecturer during tutorials.

The dissertation cover should have the title of the research, along with the student's name. The following must be found behind the title page:
• Student's full name (as appear in the registry)
• Student number
• The Design School at Taylor's University, Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.
• Design Research Dissertation (DIS60304)
• Bachelor of Design Creative Media
• Semester intake
• Date of submission

Below is the mood board that I came across for my visual design publication.

Here's my final outcome of the visual design publication.

Turnitin Submission

After getting feedback from the lecturer, I started revising the draft dissertation. There are not many things for me to amend except for the arrangement of the sentence and some grammatical errors. The lecturer helped me to fix my sentences. I was also asked to revise my project design recommendation and change some errors I had in my in-text citation. This was not asked by the lecturer, but I did some paraphrasing again to avoid the big percentage of plagiarism.

Below are the requirements for the Turnitin submission.

Kindly upload your final dissertation in a PDF or Word file. The index similarities of your dissertation can be at most 15%, and each index can be at most 5%.

Note described below regarding this plagiarism is similar to as highlighted in this module's MIB.

Plagiarism is a breach of intellectual property, the act of using or copying someone else's idea or work and trying to present it as one's own. It is taking and using someone else's work without proper attribution. Intellectual Property involves:

• Another person's idea, opinion, or theory

• Any facts, statistics, graphs, drawings—any pieces of information—that are not common knowledge

• Quotations of another person's actual spoken or written words

• Paraphrase another person's verbal or written words

Issues of intellectual Property extend beyond the written word. Bear in mind that using still images, moving images, audio, or any other content not created by oneself, and which one does not have the appropriate permission to use, is a serious offense resulting in a FAIL grade in the module.

Plagiarising other students' work into assignments includes using identical or very similar sentences, paragraphs, or sections. When two students submit very similar papers in tone and content, both are likely to be penalized.

Here is my final dissertation with the TURNITIN index similarity report that I have uploaded to TURNITIN in myTIMeS.

I received 10% for the Turnitin check for my final dissertation.

After the Turnitin submission, I was asked by the lecturer to make more amendments to the part that I plagiarized. Eventually, I did some paraphrasing again, and here is my final dissertation outcome after the amendment.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 9

Dr. Hayati advised students to look for more references of the chart, table, and diagram styles since we can’t just copy and paste from the previous one. We also have to find inspiration for our page numbering and the table of contents. It is okay to use Adobe Illustrator for making the illustration or the cover page, but for the publication pages, use Indesign instead.

WEEK 10

Dr. Hayati told us not to jump straight from the cover into the abstract or acknowledgment page. It is important to establish engagement with the reader. There should be some pages before stepping into the readings to show a glimpse of what is the book talking about.

WEEK 11

Students were told to separate the numbering of the pages, including the tables and figures section since they all are different.

WEEK 12

No Class

REFLECTIONS

This is my most favorite out of all the assignments from this module. Designing this publication for my dissertation was interesting yet tiring. It was fun when I did the layout arrangement and copy-pasting the writings. However, when it came to page numbering, I was a bit stressed out. I was struggling with the page numbering because when I suddenly have something to be added to certain pages, I had to change all the numbering as well, which is very time-wasting. But overall, this was pretty fun and refreshing, compared to the dissertation writing.
