Project 1: App Design I – Self-Evaluation and Reflection

For the first project of this module, students were asked to look back at the previous semester's App Design I project, which was redesigning an app. This is to recall our memory about the chosen app since we will need to work on the back end (coding) for the app later. Last semester, I chose Beyond LIVE Mobile App to redesign. It is a concert/show streaming platform, specifically for Korean and Japanese artists. The reason why I chose that app was because it lacks functionality and the app is not working properly like an app, it looks more like a web app.

At first, I really thought that there was no need to make any improvement because I was already confident with my final outcome from last semester. However, as I went through double check and so on, I found out a few things that can be improved, like why not? That's why I revamped some specific parts and make it better. Also previously, I worked on Adobe XD, and I felt like it would be easier for me to proceed with the back end later if I moved my work into Figma, so I finally transferred everything to Figma.

Here's to access my Adobe XD from last semester.

Below I will point out which parts are being improved.

1. Form size on Login page
After long consideration, I decided to resize the form filling and sign-in button size. The previous one was not too small actually. However, as I went through other pages that have this kind of form, I realized that it has a different sizing from the one from the Login page and I felt like it looks better with that sizing and also adds more consistency to the app, that's why I changed the size.

2. Debit or Credit Card Payment Form Color
Actually, this one has been my concern since the moment I created the page. I was really confused considering which color to put for the forms. I also don't recall the reason why I chose to proceed with the outline only. After looking at it, I decided to change the color so it looks better now.

3. Background behind Review Payment Pop-up
I added a 50% background behind the review payment pop-up because I know Figma can do it. Originally, I already planned to do this but it turns out Adobe XD doesn't have this feature, that's why I left it like that.

4. Background behind Streaming Settings Pop-up
This one got the same problem as the previous one, but finally, I added a background behind the settings pop-up so it won't merge (the pop-up and the page behind it).

5. Calendar Dates Font Style
I just realized that I was using the same styling for both the dates and the day's indicator. Users might be mixed up between those two things as both have the same styling and it would be a bit difficult to see the dates if they are in a rush. So in the end, I tried to change the color a bit darker and also the font-weight from regular to semi-bold.

REFLECTIONS

This task was more interesting than I expected. At first, I really thought that there was nothing to change or improve because I was pretty confident with my design and I also had checked and rechecked everything more than 5 times before I submitted the final outcome. When I first heard the lecturer briefing about our first task, I was like ah I have nothing to do in this first task, and I was a bit hesitant about whether to proceed with the submission saying I did nothing on the improvement or to review everything from the top to the bottom, even the smallest thing. And eventually, I decided to go with my second thought because why not. So I went through everything and even the tiniest part that I won't believe there's an error also got reviewed. Glad that I chose to review it again because in the end, I found some errors and could fix them so that they got improvement.
